HCE are the initials of Hans Christian Eikanger, a 28 year old freelance web designer from Bergen, Norway. In practical terms, that means that when he's not writing about himself in the third person he's probably hard at work creating websites. If you're wondering why he's in the habit of using just his initials, the explanation is that his full name is quite long and unwieldy, and he's used to simply being called H.C. by friends and acquaintances.
CV | Having finished the equivalent of high school (12th grade) with specialization in English, mathematics and economics, HCE jumped around a few institutions of higher education with somewhat vague notions of what he wanted to be when he grew up. He ended up studying 2 years at the Norwegian School of Management BI, where he learnt marketing and market communication, and 2 years at the The University of Bergen (UiB), where he studied Information Science and Media Science in addition to the necessary pre-courses. In hindsight, he views his jack-of-all-trades educational background as a positive.
In the middle of these four years he was summoned to serve in the Norwegian armed forces. Following the standard boot camp, he was allocated to the navy's communications section where he was trained and served as a cryptographer for one year.
It's also worth mentioning that he worked at the local college radio station while at university, including one year as technical editor/manager, a salaried part-time position. Besides being responsible for the technical equipment and all the technical details surrounding the production and airing of material, the position also involved being a producer for a fifth of the station's programming, as well as being part of outlining the editorial direction and day-to-day management of the station as a part of its editorial team. Even though it was a very time-consuming commitment which at times probably affected his studies, HCE looks very positively on the experience, which he's drawn from in his current occupation, both specifically in the case of audio editing and mixing and in general in areas of communication, brand marketing, management, e.t.c.
HCE started working professionally in the web design field in early 1999 and founded hcedesign shortly thereafter.
